Story of a caregiver: "Those moments make my job as a doctor so much more enjoyable"
"I am Mirre, a surgeon specializing in oncology and gastroenterology. I often stand next to my patients when they are put to sleep in the operating room. Many people find that a scary moment. They need to feel safe. As a doctor, you can give them that, just by being there. By putting a hand on their shoulder or having a light-hearted conversation. For example, I had a nice chat with a woman about nature. She told me about walks in the woods and chestnuts and so on. Since then, I have been getting a bag of chestnuts from that lady every year. It was obviously a Mangomoment for her, but actually just as much for me, every year."
